As Solventure Academy we organize open training sessions or Accelerator Days to boost your knowledge and insights into the Supply Chain Triangle. Up to you and your team to discover the ambition and challenges of each of the corners of the Supply Chain Triangle and learn how to bring it all together. As a result, you will strengthen the alignment within your company and, most of all, let S&OP become the heartbeat of your business.

Upcoming Accelerator Days

During our upcoming Accelerator Days we will start with a focus on the 3 pillars of the Supply Chain Triangle; Demand, Inventory and Supply Planning. Throughout this supply chain training, we will dive deeper into the alignment of those 3 planning challenges and how you enable harmony in your S&OP process by including segmentation, finance & strategic aspects. As a result, each module is a full day program consisting of in-depth knowledge, interactive discussions and fun exercises.

What’s new in 2019?

We value the importance of Continuous Improvement and strive to enhance our training sessions on a regular base. This also counts for training formats such as the Accelerator Days! We gathered the feedback from our participants last year to challenge & improve our own training format. As a result, we are organizing not one … but 4 sessions of the Accelerator Days in 2019! Check the tab ‘Practical details’ for more info about the upcoming session.

The 3-day program

We will kick off this training program with one of the corners of the Supply Chain Triangle; i.e. Demand Planning and Product Management. These functions are widely accepted as being a vital cornerstone to efficiently driving your business. In its basics, creating a forecast as such – even with complicated algorithms – is a rather straightforward task to accomplish. In goes historical data, a selection of calculations occur, and out comes a prediction on which you can base future business decisions. Right? Clearly, nothing could be further from the truth.

During this module, we will dive into various advanced topics related to Demand Planning and Product Management, and create insights on questions like:

  • How can I get the most out of my statistical forecasting? How far should I go in complexity?
  • How can we achieve the most forecast value add by setting up the right collaborative processes?
  • How can this qualitative information best be captured and translated into numbers?
  • What about new product introductions, events, promotions, tenders, and so on?
  • How can we use both quantitative and qualitative segmentation to assure we put the right amount of effort in the forecasting process in alignment with our business strategies?
  • What types of forecasting accuracy measures could be used, and what are the pitfalls of not clearly understanding their behaviour?
  • What level of detail is needed on the short, mid, to long term?
  • Can we improve our forecasting in the longer term by looking at external influences such as macro-economic indicators or weather? What’s the difference with Big Data?
  • How to make sure that we consistently and consequently review all forecasts needed on their respective time intervals, and how does segmentation help us?
  • What about demand planning in 2020? And in 2030?

These topics and many more will be covered during this session, supported by advanced content material, insightful and fun exercises and challenging discussions.

On day 2, we continue to broaden our knowledge with 2 other corners of the Supply Chain Triangle; i.e. Inventory and Supply Planning. The goal of this day is to understand the back and forth linking between different levels of supply planning and how to connect your strategies with your day-to-day operations while managing the appropriate stock levels. Efficiently managing the use of assets and suppliers and allocation of resources, will ensure your business to become flexible, sustainable, protected against risk and ready for opportunities. While having interactive discussions and execute meaningful exercises, you’ll discover how to achieve optimal service levels by setting your inventory targets in line with strategies, balancing costs and revenues. Go home with new insights on using analysis techniques to unlock money sitting in excess and obsolete stocks and review replenishment strategies where beneficial. Get insight in multi-echelon techniques to optimize the whole.

During this module, we will dive into various advanced topics related to Inventory and Supply Planning, and create insights on questions like:

  • How do we correctly value inventory costs? How to align valuations from a supply chain and finance perspective?
  • Where to position customer order decoupling points, and how regularly to reconsider them?
  • How to calculate different types of safety stocks, and what aspects do we need to keep in mind?
  • What are the appropriate reporting tools to set up, both for strategic as for execution purposes?
  • Where are the possibilities to go for chase strategies, and in case of level strategies, how do I connect these best to my inventory replenishment strategies?
  • How to follow-up and prepare capacity planning internally, and how to communicate with suppliers on their own expected available capacities?
  • When looking at the different levels of supply planning, how do we connect these levels top-down and bottom-up?
  • What to report on, and how to prepare different scenarios assessing risks and opportunities?
  • And what disruptive changes are forthcoming in 2020? And 2030?

The previous modules have covered all planning processes on the different angles of the Supply Chain Triangle. So now is the time to look at how to bring it all together. In essence, it’s all about creating harmony between the different planning processes and their stakeholders, aligning them to ensure the entire company is working towards the same goals. Integrating those processes with finance clearly is a must-have to make this successful.

  • How to integrate the different planning processes, and approach them with a holistic view?
  • What are the challenges in getting everyone aligned around the supply chain triangle, and how to overcome them?
  • Why is it so important to have executive level support for implementing or improving S&OP processes?
  • What are the roles and responsibilities of the different planning departments, and how should they prepare for and contribute to the S&OP cycle?
  • How to set the right KPI’s to monitor business performance?
  • What is involved in the creation of different scenarios to support future business decisions?
  • Where do we find value in integrating financial calculations early in the implementation of the S&OP process?
  • What is the maturity path to efficient integrated business planning?
  • Why is it so imperative to be able to support the design or improvement of this process with the correct set of tooling?
  • When do we know our S&OP process is adding vital decision-making support to our executives, and how do we measure that?
  • Where will S&OP be in 2020? And what in 2030?

Obviously, the Accelerator Days target professionals involved in those specific planning processes of the supply chain. However, we strongly recommend the participation of anyone with responsibilities in any domain that is affected by or involved in the Supply Chain Triangle. So, are you from demand planning, customer service, procurement, sales, inventory management, human resources, manufacturing, IT and systems integrations, or other, and do you carry a responsibility in guiding the business in the right direction, we will be glad to reserve a seat for you. We ask only for one prerequisite for attending the Accelerator Days: be knowledgeable about some basic concepts and terminology about the topic, so that from the very start of the day, we can deep dive into very useful content, exercises and discussions, thereby generating the most value out of the training, for all attendees present. Don’t be alarmed. We will provide the expected basic knowledge upfront, so you can familiarize with it if needed.

What’s new in 2019?

We will organize the Accelerator Days 4 times this year (March, May, September, November). This gives you more flexibility to join one or more modules during the year. The dates of all session will be made available early January, at that moment it will also be possible to already subscribe for the session of your choice.

We know from experience that industry-specific decisions with regards to the S&OP process are made at certain levels. But this does not mean you cannot learn from them. By understanding why this industry tackles their process in such a way, you broaden your S&OP vision. Next, we encourage our participants to interact with each other and share experiences. Every process improvement has its own successes and possible pitfalls no matter which industry you are in. Step out of your comfort zone and learn from your peers.

We strongly recommend the participation of anyone with responsibilities in any domain that is affected by or involved in the Supply Chain Triangle. Meaning anyone from supply chain but also sales, finance, procurement, IT,… is warmly invited. Certainly when you are planning/executing a supply chain project that affects multiple departments, bring your colleagues along so you can shape one vision to take your project to a next level.
